As a girl, growing up in
Duluth, Minnesota in the  1980s, Lake Superior was the
continually shifting backdrop of my childhood. This greatest of Great Lakes is a  merculiar presence, as familiar as family, and a constant reminder that the most shiny surface story can conceal catatrophic secrets.
